I was usually listening some podcast about, innovation, design, and business. i recently found a podcast about design and social innovation "Diseno and Diaspora" and Spanish podcast than interview entrepreneurs that has interesting project about local necessities. and one of them talk about how libraries could be used as local interaction of people, getting other use, not just for reading or searching information.
The library multifunctionality, it's not the first time that come to my mind, I made some writing about it, in one of my LinkedIn posts, I talk about what could library do, now in the AI era, where the information need less effort than years before.
these come to my mind after visit with my kids the local library:
Community center: where people could joint to talk about common interest
Debate Center: Is saw an article where the library is used to talk about AI risk and how uninstall AI product, that company's install or enable without consents.
The library as a maker center. In few library I see maker spaces, laser cut, 3d print and fix yourself programs.
Library as language center: People could learn or teach languages specially those who need a physical human interaction, like me, apps like Duolingo don't work for me.
Library as place to relieve loneliness epidemic: where people could talk or share time with others.
these are some of topics that could turn the library more attractive and functional. I need to read and listen more this examples that could help to gain the battle of screen time.
AI correction
I regularly listen to podcasts focused on innovation, design, and business. Recently, I discovered Diseño y Diáspora, a Spanish podcast about design and social innovation that interviews entrepreneurs leading projects tailored to local needs. One episode examined how libraries can evolve into hubs for social interaction, serving purposes far beyond traditional reading and information retrieval.
Multifunctional libraries are a recurring theme for me. Prompted by visits to the local library with my children, I recently published a LinkedIn article analyzing the role of libraries in the AI era—a time when accessing information requires a fraction of the effort it once did.
Libraries can be repositioned through the following models:
Community Centers: Collaborative spaces for individuals to gather and discuss shared interests.
Debate Forums: Venues for civic discourse. For instance, recent case studies show libraries hosting discussions on AI risks, including technical guidance on uninstalling software enabled without user consent.
Maker Spaces: Facilities equipped with laser cutters, 3D printers, and DIY repair programs.
Language Centers: Dedicated environments for teaching and learning languages.
Social Isolation Refuges: Supportive spaces where individuals can interact to combat the modern loneliness epidemic.
Implementing these frameworks makes libraries significantly more attractive and functional. Analyzing similar operational case studies provides a strategic advantage in mitigating excessive screen time.
Note: As is evident, I need to improve my writing skills, but with consistent practice, I expect to get better.
